Marchwood Mini Charity Fete
On Sunday my family and I hosted our Marchwood Mini Charity Fete. This day was absolutely fantastic and really shows that hard work does pay off!
We came up with an idea a few weeks ago and ran into a few
obstacles. Firstly we were struggling to fit it in as I have been trying to do
2/3 appearances per week, and then we couldn’t get permission off the council. They
wanted us to pay for the £10,000,000 worth of public liability insurance which
surely charity events can’t pay! This got even more confusing when Hampshire
County Council said we didn’t need it! Regardless of red tape, we moved the
event five metres to the right onto my parent’s land and then prayed to the
weather god’s. Waking up Sunday morning to rain wasn’t the best start to the
day but after a dash to erect some marquees and covers we were well on our way.
Come 11am and we had children waiting patiently at the
driveway! I couldn’t believe it as more and more people began to show,
including whole families and neighbours, OAPs and yet more kiddies! We had put
posters on every post and tree in the area and posted online but we thought the
last minute move and rain would hinder us. We were we wrong!
Guests entered and had a go at Hook a Duck first which we
realised was actually incredibly hard! Plus my boyfriend Ian was on this stand
and took it upon himself to really master the art of hook the duck. The hooks
were tiny but the kids got the hang of it and got to pick out prizes from our
children’s prize shelf. We had plastic tea sets, Disney characters, toy cars,
sweeties and lots of other goodies. I can confirm a minion was the first prize
to be won however.
Next to hook a duck was the cake stand which me and my brother’s
girlfriend manned for the majority of the day. Despite a near devil’s food cake
catastrophe, the cake stall was a huge success and also helped keep our army of
volunteers well fed. Big claps to me for my brownies being the first cake to be
finished! Thank you to Carol, Abbey and Emma for also baking away for us!
We also held a tombola which had an array of prizes from spa
sets to candles, wine to chocolate, pictures to ice scrapers, dog grooming kits
to yet more wine….there was a lot of wine going basically. Everything on the
tombola went and we also held a kiddies version as well so they wouldn’t feel
left out, which included games and puzzles as prizes.
Emma, our family friend, held a stall manned by my Auntie
Alison where she invited guests to play Pick a Straw and Guess How Many
Sweeties in the Jar. The straw game was great as it was only 10p a pop and
pretty much everyone won some sweets.
Round the back and into the garden we had face painting
under the marquee, a great local busker and also Hoopla and Whack the Rat which
my uncle got way to into! Whack the Rat basically involved a drainpipe, a piece
of wood and a couple of stuffed old socks. Pretty simple but lots of fun!
My brother and his friend Caspar also ran our half size
steam wagon which took guests up and down the village for a quick run-around.
The day was great and it was lovely to host an event with my
family and friends. We had a ton of fun and raised just over £300 which will go
towards our total of £2,000.
Thank you so much to everyone that came and braved the rain,
and to The Bridge and Cannon Technologies for the donations of many of the
prizes! x
