Reflection
As my
journey in Miss England draws to a close, I’ve come to reflect on all the
opportunities the competition has given me. Because of Miss England, I’ve been
able to….
Present at
the Dorset County Show, the Southampton Hospital Charity Fashion Show, the
Southampton City Council Upcycled Fashion Show and I got to study TV training
and the TV Training Academy.
I have modelled
for Exquisite Bridal Couture, Elegance Bridal Coiffure, Amaryllis Bridalwear,
Caroline Castigliano, Jennifer Sinclair, Highcliffe & Infinity Camera Club
and at the Dorset Vintage Wedding Show.
I’ve
appeared on TV and radio, in magazines and newspapers, online and launched an
internationally successful blog with 15,000 hits.
I was able
to belly dance for the first time ever live on stage, learn how to knit with a
local Portsmouth community group, play wheelchair rugby with the England team
and walk miles and miles for Calum Mayes’ Wheelchair Awareness Challenge.
I’ve ran the
Naomi House & Jacksplace Colour Run, the Alton 10 mile road race and the
first ever ABP Southampton Half-Marathon, and made a pledge to run the London
Marathon.
I have
cleaned the beaches of Southampton, raised awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and
helped its ‘Strawfie’ campaign, and cut the hair of Olivia to donate to the
Little Princess Trust. I’ve also slept homeless for Trinity Winchester, as well
as cooked a simple supper for Wintercomfort, organised a teddy bear’s picnic
with my friends for YOPEY, donned purple for Kidney Research UK and
participated in Age UK’s Big Chinwag.
I’ve got to
work with David Freeman, Kev Wise, Simon Giddings, Kumar Chan, Paul Carroll and Fresh Academy and taken
some great shots!
I’ve got to
meet some amazing people – finalists, friends, organisers, family etc. I cannot
thank everyone enough (especially Paula & Gideon).
Who’s to say
I could or couldn’t have done all of the above myself? I’ll never know, but
what I do know is Miss England has pushed me, made me believe in myself and put
myself out there. I like me for being me now. So thank you J
