What is the craziest thing you've done?

I cannot really think of anything crazy that I have done, but something crazy(ish) I have done, that I am very proud of, is took part in the Thames Path Challenge September 2013 and walked for 11 hours 28 minutes to complete a 50km walk from Runnymede to Henley to help raise funds, support and awareness for The Lullaby Trust.

Why would you be a good representative for your county?

I believe I will be a good representative for my county as I am a dedicated, determined, charitable and a sociable young lady. I also wish to be a role model to younger children, helping them to believe they can achieve anything they set their heart on.

Finalist Spotlight - Isobelle Cooper

In the lead up to the Miss Hampshire & IOW finals on March 12th, we thought it would good to show off our amazing finalists and let you know what they are all about.

Next we have Isobelle Cooper, an 18 year old Hairdresser and Beauty Therapist from Southampton.

Tell us about your occupation?

I have been in E’clips hairdressing since the age of 14, where I did my work experience. I started my training and qualified 18 months later. I love my job and it shows I have good people skills which is important in the industry.

Alongside this my sister and I have just started up our own business, this shows commitment and hard work.

What are your hobbies and ambitions?

My hobbies are dancing, the gym, charity work and make up. I have been dancing from ever since I can remember, and last year I got to take part in a show at the O2 in London.

I go to the gym about 4-5 times a week and over this past year I have got stronger whilst it has improved me mentally as well as physically by giving me more self-esteem.

From a young age I have been involved in charity work, I have gone from just attending them to organising and a host of them! I love making a difference and helping others. I am now a volunteer community fundraiser for a local hospice.

My ambition is to be successful in my job and to keep on raising money for charities. I would love to be a role model for others especially with anxiety. Having suffered this myself I want to show people they can do things if they want to and how to have a positive look on life.

Who is your role model?

My role model is my whole family. My mum is the most hardworking person I know; since I was a young age she's worked hard to provide a happy and comfortable life for me and my sister. She is very kind and generous and I can talk to her about anything.

My dad is a kind hearted and funny person, he is also trying to set up his own business and I would like to follow that commitment.

All my family are hardworking and loving and I wish to have their qualities when I grow up.

What is the craziest thing you've done?

The craziest thing I have ever done was performed at the O2 in London; it was the most amazing experience anyone could possibly wish for. The rehearsals were hard work and took a lot of commitment but it was worth every second!

Why would you be a good representative for your county?

If I was to win Miss Hampshire it would be the greatest honour to represent Hampshire in Miss England. I would use all my charitable abilities to help raise funds for charities across England and possibly the world. I also want to help businesses which have helped me overcome my anxiety and get where I am today. I also want to help others with the same issues and enable them to follow their dreams.

Finalist Spotlight - Channon Kail

In the lead up to the Miss Hampshire & IOW finals on March 12th, we thought it would good to show off our amazing finalists and let you know what they are all about.

Next up, we have Channon Kail, who's 20 and a HR Administrator from Portsmouth.

Tell us about your occupation?

I have just started a new role at my local hospital in the HR department. I work within a multidisciplinary team supporting various clinical departments. I have many responsibilities and enjoy learning new things.

What are your hobbies and ambitions?

It is my ambition to become a social worker. I am currently working full time as well as attending evening classes to gain the level 3 qualification I need to attend university. I love helping people and enjoy making a difference to people’s lives. I am a keen fundraiser and over the past year have raised over £2000 for various charitable organisations. I enjoy letting off some steam by running and going to the gym. I am a very sociable person and enjoy spending my spare time with family and friends.
Who is your role model?

I know this may seem cliché however my mum is my biggest role mode. She was a young mum and has never stopped going above and beyond to get the best for her family. Not only does she care for my family but she works as a care manager, providing support for those who need it within my local community. She has always inspired me to do my best and that nothing is impossible. I have learned many life lessons from her including nothing is easy and if it’s worth having it will take some hard work. My mum has never let me or any of my siblings go without, even if it means sacrificing something that she wants. My mum means everything to me and I couldn’t be more grateful for everything she has done for me and my family.

What is the craziest thing you've done?

I would say that the craziest/eye opening thing I have done was sleeping rough for a local charity called Trinity. A group of friends and I slept rough within the Winchester Cathedral grounds, we slept under cardboard boxes and tarpaulin. It was the most eye opening thing I have ever done. Putting myself in the shoes of someone who is homeless was an incredible experience. Sleeping (trying) next to one my friends and pageant inspirations was fun and difficult at times, it gave me a whole new perspective on those less fortunate than myself. It taught me not to take things for granted and appreciate all that I have.

Why would you be a good representative for your county?

I feel that I would be a good representative for my county as I feel that I am a genuine girl with a caring nature who is willing to give 110% for something that I believe in. I feel I would be a good advocate for all those who have had anxiety and I would like to show those people that if I can do it then so can they. I would love to use the Miss England platform to raise awareness and funds for charities on a larger level. I feel that there is a stigma around beauty pageants and I would like to change that. Beauty pageants, Miss England especially, is an amazing organisation highlighting the amazing things that young men and women achieve. Being in a beauty pageant it not something that should be seen as vanity but a life changing experience making a difference to not only the contestants lives but those who benefit from the hundreds of thousands of pounds that the organisation has helped to raise. I would love to be a role model for young women and empower them to enter pageants and promote the Miss England pageants throughout the County.

I am involved a lot in raising awareness for The MPS Society which supports children and families with MPS related diseases."

Who is your role model?

"My role model would be me a mixture between my dad, who has the most incredible work ethic and would put anyone and anything before himself to ensure people have a smile upon their face. My second role model is Amy Willerton for the incredible awareness she has raised for her brother. She is a strong woman and ambition she has for supporting her brother is incredible."

What is the craziest thing you've done?

"I was the face of Vodafone and flew out to Spain to film the advert which I starred in."

Why would you be a good representative for your county?

"I think I would be a good representative for my county as not only am I incredibly hard working, but I care so much for people and their success around me. Make one person smile a day, can give the drive for a person to help as many as possible and that is my aim."

Why Should You Enter The Miss England Contest?

Look I’m pretty biased so if you’re reading this, you kind of know that I am going to advocate entering! However, I have compiled five awesome reasons to back me up, so take a look and see what you think….

1. Confidence
I think confidence is one of the biggest rewards you can obtain from entering Miss England. I know some people say that entering such contests might give your self-esteem a blow, but until you’ve experienced it, you won’t know the giddy rush you get from being on stage and strutting your stuff, and how great you feel after meeting the judges in your interview. I entered Miss England a few times and every year my confidence grew. Building confidence is crucial to growing as a person and because of entering Miss Hampshire and Miss England I feel so much more relaxed when I have to speak to strangers or go to a job interview.

2. Friendship
I have a real close knit group of friends from home and university, but some of my other closest friends are through Miss England. It doesn’t matter that we live up and down the country, it is a real unique and privileged opportunity to be involved in Miss England and that is something very special we share.

Pageants are not bitchy. Everyone is in the same boat, and everyone is there to make friends. What I love is helping each other zip in to dresses and calm each other’s nerves. Some contestants end up going on holiday together or even being each other’s flatmate or bridesmaid, so you gain a lot of really good friends through Miss England.

3. Opportunities
You might think that doing a beauty pageant would open a few doors to modelling assignments  - and you’re right. I have had paid modelling work which for a size 8-10 5”7 25 year old, is hard to come by! However, I have also been able to work in presenting which I absolutely love, and also work with a number of amazing charitable organisations. I’ve met some great local and national celebrities, and I’ve also been to places in the country I never thought I would. Plus I performed belly dancing by myself live on stage! You never quite know where entering a regional heat will take you so just grab the bull by the horns and do it!

4. Charity & community work
This is another big opportunity, and a massive part of Miss Hampshire and Miss England. Each year the competition raises funds for the official Miss World charitable organisation, Beauty with a Purpose (BWAP), and they want to hear about all the amazing ways contestants can raise funds. It's not just about how much you raise, but the effort and energy you put in. My proudest moment to date was not getting into the finals of Miss England for the third time (although still pretty chuffed about this), but it was actually running the ABP Southampton Half Marathon with my boyfriend for Southampton Hospital Charity and BWAP. This is because it was something I thought I could never ever do, and I am so proud of finishing the race, with my boyfriend who had just recovered from surgery, and raising lots of money for charity.

There's also a number of ways you can raise awareness of local charities, events and organisations. Having a title as a competitor of Miss Hampshire is a big deal and people are going to want you to appear to help their cause. Get involved and into the spirit; the more people you help, the more people will know about how great Miss Hampshire and Miss England is!

5. Fun

You get to make new friends while looking a million bucks, wear fabulous dresses and prance around like a catwalk queen. You might even get to meet Miss England, and Mr England as well ;) so there's tons of reasons to enter. Or even better, you might become Miss England, and MISS WORLD!

It's basically like a really intense and rewarding girls night out – that just lasts around a year. The best bit is all getting ready together and having a drama over false eyelashes or blisters. Or sharing your room with an awesome contestant from elsewhere in the country and having hot chocolate and chatting into the night about all the great stuff you do. Or seeing your family and friends in the crowd when you’re on stage. Or learning about where all your hard work fundraising goes to. Or realising one of these amazing girls you know is going to Miss World. Or realising it could be you! Okay so there are quite a few best bits!
